Advice for a first time lakehouse hunter.
For those of you that live at or near a lake, do you get tired of being on the water?
First impression I have is to look for a place on the water, then I think well........,not a lot of privacy and I would probably just fish the same spots over and over.
Always thought to get a spot on Toledo with my own private boat lift so that I wouldn't have to deal with the boat launch thing, but now I think, hey I might want to trap hogs or hunt in the back yard too.
So the question is, house on the water or house on land between lakes where I can choose where to go?
Can't afford both!
Maybe can't afford either one!

Water if you can afford it. Lots of privacy so you can rent tanning areas to the needy

I'm half way between the salt and Toledo and would not have it any other way .

I can hunt and fish here or travel a short ways to fish different water .

Thanks for the input gents.
Now just got to decide if I want additional insurance, electric, water and tax bills every month along with another yard to maintain.
I really hate being one of those logical guys.

Condo on the lake.... someone else does the maintenance... if the place doesn't come with a garage, rent a space near the lake to keep your boat locked up inside and ready to go... that's my dream.

Looking at land/homes in the Devil's Backbone area around Canyon Lake now.
Get the right place and you don't have to mow the grass.
Oh yeah, not the best fishing lake but plenty of bikinis in the summer months.

Back in the late 80's my dad bought a place on Caney Lake near Jonesboro, Louisiana.......We loved it. He had owned several RV's through the years but none of them could compare to owning a camp. This place had 150 feet of water frontage, a sea wall, a pier, a boat house, and our own boat ramp. The house was a 16 x 80 Oakwood mobile home with a nice sized back porch facing west so we could cook and watch the sun set which we did quiet often during the middle of the week. We had it completely self contained right down to all the toiletries, clothes, basic groceries, etc., all you needed were your keys in your pocket and you were ready to go. I absolutely loved this place and would love to get it back someday. Dad sold it because my sisters and I moved away to chase careers. The only drawback to the whole thing was it was on 3 acres. We spent most weekends mowing until he finally let the east end grow back into forest.......Don't buy a place that is going to require you do a lot of yard work..........

Well, didn't buy anything but did confirm that's the location.
Now just need to convince the wife.

No, not this time. I've already got a plan.
I'll just move and see if she finds me.

Well no matter where I end up, I've figured out how to get there.
I'm going to trade my 40k truck for this one ( after I wash it )

I'm going to have to make some stand alone decisions like this as soon as I get that youngun's schooling paid for......I want lake property, a new bass boat, and a new truck. The boat and the truck I'll be able to talk her into but the land I'll probably just have to go do it and ask for forgiveness. A few years a go I came home driving a new truck totally unannounced and she got mad but she got over it. She still brings it up every once in a while though...........

Nice trick,
Might have to try it on my wife, but I'm too cheap to buy a new boat and I'm afraid if I give her my USED boat she would probably get pissed and sell it then buy what she wants. I seriously doubt that whatever she buys is going to float or be designed for fishing.
Armadilla, we just may need to start calling you "lucky"!

Ok....I'm looking for land and/or lake house again even though this isn't the right time of year.(just looking right now)
Anyone live around Many LA? I hear it has a Walmart and hospital...anything else worth mentioning?(like an Indian food restaurant, indoor shooting range, house-of-I'll-repute and/or casino)..I consider these life essentials...Although I would probably sneak back over the border to sleep at night in my own bed.

Yes on the Walmart and hospital. Negative ghostrider on the house of ill repute. Have to go to Leesville for that. So I heard...

Our place is up the hill overlooking the neighbor's place that is between us and Lake Livingston. I like it.
