This tree is about 50 yards behind my house.... close..and powerful. This is a large old oak. We think this occurred Thursday June 25.... We were out of town, but on the way in. We watched a huge lightening show as we rolled in about 10:30 pm.. Just noticed this tree this week.. but it had to be when it happened.. That was the last storm.

About 10 years ago, our house was hit by lightening about 2 in the morning... took out most all of the electronic/electrical equipment in the house... just fortunately did not burn us down.

the armadilla....

Dang!!!
I've seen one or two trees that have been hit by lightning but never one split so cleanly.

I was fishing a tournament on Fork about 20 years ago and up north of the lake there were black clouds and every once in a while you could hear distant thunder. The dude on the radio said there was no problem since the storm would not hit until long after the tournament was over. About 20 minutes later my rod tingled and lightning hit a tree about 50 yards from me left there in a hurry and hid in a friends boathouse a mile away.
