I looked at google maps. There was a Lake off the main river called Lake Lafitta just north up the river from mouth of cypress. Do you know anything about this lake?

The river stage was at 24 foot this morning and the fishing was great the last two days. Spent one day up boggy and the bean field and one day in a river lake. I have been covering as much water as possible in the morning with buzzbait and spinnerbait. I will only get bit in small areas but those are the areas I come back through and flip my baby brush hogs. Been averaging about 12-13 pounds on my 5 biggest and catching 20-25 a day. That wont win any tourny's but its still fun. Hope this helps I think the river is supposed to come up to 26.5 by May 3 so there will be a few places that will be easily accessible.

I didn't make it there yesterday.

There were refrigerators floating down the river?

The river is my old stomping ground and you are right on the 12 to 13 pound stringers. I won or placed in a few club tourneys on that river back in the 80's and 90's and if you had a limit of 2 pounders and a good 3.5 to 4 pound fish in the mix you could usually get paid. Big bass is a whole 'nother game; though, it is usually won by something under 7 pounds you usually have to beat 6 pounds to win and a 3.5 to 4 pound fish will usually get you an hourly prize.
